Project Overview

This is a third-person action adventure game. The core gameplay involving platformer, combat and puzzle, which is inspired by Zelda.

  • Team size: 1
  • Duration: 5 Weeks (17/01/2022-19/02/2022)
  • Tools: Unreal 4.20

   

Project  Goals

  • Designed and created a third person action adventure RPG for Quest For Valor game from the planning phase to the polish phase. The level involves combats, puzzles and platformers beats.
  • Created 4-6 mission beats with unique and interesting narrative and gameplay.
  • Programmed the level logic and boss fight in blueprint.

    

Level Whitebox

  • Polished three times from the layout plan phrase to whiteboxing phrase. The initial map design is too simple, which will make players have a lot of meaningless straight-line movement, so the overall layout is improved. More height differences, corners and line of sight blocking are added to increase the freshness of players.

Level Scripting

Main Level Blueprint
  • Using Level Scripts to create interactive gameplay such as Door open, Moving Platform, Lever Control, Pickup setting, Puzzle Logic, Enemy Logic, Set Journal, Play Level Sequence/Cinematics, Play Dialogue System, etc.
  • Also using level scripts to control the level progress, such as Level checkpoints, Key/Coin inventory, etc.

Boss Fight Sub-Level Blueprint
  • Using Level Scripts to create boss fight with three stages, the cinematics of the monster boss.
