Project Overview

This is a third-person action adventure game. The core gameplay involving platformer, combat and puzzle, which is inspired by Zelda.

  • Duration: 2 Weeks (27/03/2022-17/04/2022)
  • Tools: Unreal 4.20

   

Project  Goals

  • Designed three game beats according to the core mechanics, include Assault, Defend and Infiltrate.
  • Used Unreal Engine to create the level.
  • Programmed the level logic in blueprint.

    

Level Design Progress

Metrics

Before I blockout the level, I created a test level for test metrics. The metrics can help me to define the size of the world, the distance of traversal movement and the AI combat Arena size.

  • Player: Z=2 (standing), 1 (crouching)
  • Lower cover min: X=1, Y=1, Z=1
  • Higher cover min: X=1, Y=1, Z=2
   

Level Beats

The whole level consists of three distinct layouts, assault, defend and infiltrate.

  • The player must assault and eliminate of 6-9 AI within the Assault layout
  • Multiple flanking opportunities for the player to take

  • Teach the Stealth in an easy way, then make a harder one to let the player master it. Also combine the level mechanics with puzzle elements to let the player think more.




  • AI spawn in waves within 180 degrees, let players not face too sudden danger
  • The player is in a high area at the beginning, which is easy to adapt to the environment
